A much-anticipated performance awaits football fans across the country this year.

Though the Super Bowl’s main function is to crown the best football team in the nation, there are those, such as myself, that look forward to the musical performances of the halftime show. The most memorable performances of the last ten years range from Lady Gaga in 2017 to Rihanna performing in 2023. It unites the arena in music and entertainment, putting aside the tensions that can arise watching your favorite team play for the title of Super Bowl champion.

These artists are able to perform hit songs from their careers and defy gravity in their stunts, as Gaga did from a harness twisting and twirling around the arena. Also as Rihanna did, commanding her presence through her entrancing vocals, powering through her pop hits, all while performing with a baby bump. It's safe to say, the Super Bowl creates an environment for artists to cultivate their artistry and creativity in a mere thirteen minutes.

The surprise-release of Kendrick Lamar’s new album “GNX” on November 22, 2024, took the hip-hop/rap community by storm. Prior to this, he released a series of diss tracks towards Drake for talking down on his family. Those diss tracks revitalized the rap community, whether it be through the hard beat switches throughout “euphoria” or one of the grooviest tracks of the summer, “Not Like Us.”

With the discography of the 17-time Grammy Award-winning and Pulitzer Prize-winning artist, there is no doubt about how much content Lamar could use to give the viewers a groundbreaking performance. There was speculation of artists such as Tyler, the Creator and Sza who could also be guest performers. On Lamar’s Instagram account, the confirmation that Sza would be a guest performer was made through a video of her throwing a bucket of water on him. Sza has been a long time collaborator of Lamar, creating beautiful tracks such as “All the Stars” made for the Blank Panther movie soundtrack and “luther” a song off “GNX”.

The anticipation of Kendrick Lamar's performance leaves viewers with much to look forward to. Will there be more than one special guest performing? It’s safe to say that fans of Lamar and fans of hip-hop/rap are in for a treat.
