The Orange struck first, as freshman Breadon Smith beat UAlbany goalkeeper Daniel Shannon at 3:32 in the first half. The Orange found the back of the net again as junior Michael Acquah deposited a corner kick off a deflection in the ninth minute of play as the Orange took a 2-0 lead.
The Great Danes tried to break through the Syracuse defense, but the Orange proved to be too much through the first 20 minutes as they held the Great Danes to just two shots.
UAlbany’s lone scoring chance of the first half came with just two minutes to go, as Christos Efstathiou just missed the net off a free kick. The Orange largely dominated the first half, leading the shot totals 6-4 and preventing the Great Danes from getting any on target while dominating the Great Danes physically.
The second half started better for the Great Danes, as sophomore Ethan Cook appeared to have cut the deficit in half off a corner, but was called offside as the Great Danes began to become visibly frustrated as they were unable to find their way onto the scoresheet.
The Orange proved their prowess on attack once again, as a Great Dane turnover led to a Syracuse counterattack which was put in the back of the net by senior Daniel Burko to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Great Danes won a penalty kick in the 71st minute, where junior Timo Jansen sent the Syracuse goalkeeper the wrong way to cut the deficit to 3-1. That would be the last of the UAlbany attack, as the Orange dominated the last part of the game to cap off a dominating 3-1 win.
