This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:


Freshman Amir Lindsey going for a layup. Lindsey scored a career high 15 points in Saturday’s win against NJIT.

Thursday, January 23:


Men’s basketball lost to UMBC 92-87 in overtime at their Neon Night game at home. The team shot 39.7 percent from the field on 31-78 shooting, going 9-27 from the 3-point arc and 16-26 on free throw attempts. Amar’e Marshall led the team with 25 points. Byron Joshua finished the game with 17 points, Justin Neely finished with 12 and Amir Lindsey finished with 11. Marshall, Joshua and Neely each led the team with three assists. The Great Danes fell to a record of 10-11, and 2-4 in conference play. 


Women’s basketball lost to UMBC 71-59 in Baltimore, Maryland, suffering their first conference loss of the season. The team shot 36.9 percent from the field on 24-65 shooting, going 5-24 from 3-point arc and 6-8 on free throw attempts. Kayla Cooper led the team with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Cooper and three other Great Danes finished the game with two assists. The Great Danes fell to a record of 16-4, and fell to 6-1 in conference play.


Saturday, January 25:


Men’s basketball beat NJIT 68-62. The team shot 42.9% from the field on 21-49 shooting, going 5-17 from 3-point arc and went 21-28 on free-throw attempts. Freshman Amir Lindsey led the team with a career high 15 points. Justin Neely, Byron Joshua and Amar’e Marshall all finished the game with 13 points each and DeMarr Langford Jr. finished the game with 10 points. Kacper Klaczek led the team with four assists. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 11-11, with a record of 3-4 in conference play.


Women’s basketball beat NJIT 75-59 in Newark, New Jersey. The team shot 54.5 percent from the field on 30-55 shooting, going 5-14 from the 3-point arc and 10-13 on free throw attempts. Kaci Donovan led the team with 19 points. Jessica Tomasetti finished the game with 16 points, Kayla Cooper finished with 14 and Martina Borrellas finished with 10. Cooper and Borrellas both led the team with three assists. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 17-4, with a record of 7-1 in conference play.


Men’s and women’s track competed at the Dr. Sander Scorcher meet this weekend at the Armory in New York City. 


For the women, nine members of the team recorded personal records. Stephanie Green recorded a personal record in the weight throw with a mark of 15.54 m. Green now ranks second in the program’s all-time performers list. Miyanah Robinson finished first in the high jump with a mark of 1.73 m, which is a personal best and now ranks fourth in school history.

 

For the men, 10 members of the men’s track and field team recorded personal records, with five coming from distance runners and the other five in shorter track and field events. Qualiar Newton recorded a personal record in the weight throw with a mark of 20.18 m, finishing first and recording the second-longest throw in program history. Jasir Parker finished first in the triple jump and Tooni Ogunyeye finished first in the 60m dash with a mark of 6.77. UAlbany’s 4x400m relay team finished first with a mark of 3:20.68.
