This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:
Simone Menchini competing at the Roy-al Rumble meet this weekend. Menchini set a new record and is now ranked first in the America East Conference and second in the Northeast.

Saturday, February 2:
Men’s basketball lost to Binghamton 65-61 during their Big Purple Growl game. The team shot 41% from the field on 25-61 shooting, going 5-24 from 3-point arc and went 6-7 on free-throw attempts. Byron Joshua led the team with 15 points. Kacper Klazcek finished the game with 12 points. Joshua and Klaczek both led the team with four assists. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 11-12, with a record of 3-5 in conference play.
Women’s basketball beat Binghamton 65-54 in Vestal, New York. The team shot 47.1 percent from the field on 24-551 shooting, going 8-22 from the 3-point arc and 9-9 on free throw attempts. Kayla Cooper led the team with 21 points. Kaci Donovan finished the game with 14 points and Lilly Phillips finished with 13. Jessica Tomasetti led the team with six assists. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 18-4, with a record of 8-1 in conference play.
Men’s and women’s track competed at the Grey Roy-al Rumble meet at UConn in Storrs, Connecticut.
For the women, nine members of the team recorded personal records and four members recorded first place finishes. Adaliz Hunt recorded a personal record and conference best time with a time of 7.56 in the 60m race. Hunt currently leads the America East and is ranked No.5 in the Northeast this season. Nattaly Lindo broke the freshman record in weight throw with a mark of 17.44m, which earned her the fourth best throw in the conference and 13th in Northeast. Rebeca Valerie Barrientos Alpha recorded a season best with a mark of 5.65m in the long jump and is now ranked fourth in the conference.
For the men, six members of the men’s track and field team recorded personal records and three members recorded first place finishes, which included the men’s 4x400m relay team. Simone Menchini recorded a new school record in the long jump with a mark of 7.66m. Menchini is now ranked first in the America East Conference and second in the Northeast. Stephan Farquharson, Christian Quinn rounded out the podium in long jump for UAlbany placing second and third, while Daniel Cephus finished in fourth place. Gabriel Snyder set a personal record in pole vault with a mark of 7.65m which tied for second place, and is now ranked second in the conference and 16th in the Northeast. Giovannie Gonzales finished first in the 300m race with a time of 36.74.
