This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

Wednesday, Oct. 16:
Volleyball beat cross-town rivals Siena 3-1 in Loudonville, NY. The team recorded a total of 55 kills, 11 aces and six blocks. Shynelle Woroniuk led the team with 16 kills. Maria Olga Siapani and Kasia Barletta led the team with 10 defensive digs each. The Great Danes improved to a record of 7-11.
Thursday, Oct. 17:
Women’s soccer fell to Vermont 3-0 in Burlington, Vermont. The team recorded seven shots with four shots on goal. Sydney Kofton, Claire Owens, Flo Bartholomai and Sydney Waits each took the one shot, with one shot at goal for the Great Danes. Goalkeeper Emily Dorfman recorded five saves. The Great Danes’ record fell to 3-10-1, and fell to 2-3-1 in conference play.
Friday, Oct. 18:
#13 ranked field hockey beat New Hampshire 3-2 in overtime in Durham, New Hampshire. The team finished the game with 13 shots, with five shots on goal. Eva Jenniskens, Mara Kuskes and Floor de Ruiter recorded one goal each, with de Ruiter scoring the game winning goal. Alison Smisdom and de Ruiter recorded one assist each. Goalkeeper Lara Behn recorded one save. The Great Danes’ record improved to 12-2 overall and remained a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

Saturday, Oct. 19:
Football lost to Elon 30-14 during the Homecoming game celebration, snapping a two game win streak. Quarterback Myles Burkett threw 18/35 for 214 yards. He also threw one touchdown pass. MarQueese Dietz led the team with six catches for 97 yards. Caden Burti caught the lone passing touchdown for the Great Danes. Dontae Lunan with 12 total tackles that included nine solo tackles. Thomas Joe-Kamara recorded one tackle for loss and recorded one sack. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 3-4 and stand at 1-2 in conference play.
Men’s soccer lost to NJIT 2-1 in Newark, New Jersey. The team recorded a total of 14 shots, with three shots on goal. Timo Jansen recorded the lone goal for the Great Danes and recorded two shots with both shots toward the goal. Ander Castillo led the team with seven shots, with one shot at goal. Ivar Orri Gissurarson recorded three shots. Goalkeeper Kodai Tsuzuki recorded four saves. The Great Danes record now stands at 3-10-1, and have a record of 1-3-0 in conference play.
Sunday, Oct. 20:
Women’s golf participated in their final fall tournament, at the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania this weekend. They finished the tournament 2nd out of 12 teams, and finished 60 over par. Callie Taylor led the way for the Great Danes, finishing ninth overall as an individual and ending the tournament 12 over par. Lucia Esteban and Mia Cepeda both placed in the top 20, finishing 14 over par and 16 over par respectively.
Women’s soccer lost to undefeated conference leader Maine 1-0 in Orono, Maine. The team was able to take six shots, with two shots at goal. Mariella Fulcher led the team with two shots. Four other players each recorded one shot. Goalkeeper Emily Dorfman recorded 12 saves. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 3-11-1, and have a record of 2-4-1 in conference play.
#13 ranked field hockey lost to #9 Boston College 3-1 in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The team finished the game with six shots, with three shots on goal. Charlotte Triggs scored the lone goal for the Great Danes. Floor de Ruiter led the team with two shots, while four other players recorded one shot each. Goalkeeper Lara Behn recorded five saves. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 12 - 3 overall.
Men’s cross country and Women’s cross country competed at the Fall Foliage Invitational in St. Albans, Vermont. For the men, they competed in a 8k race whereas the women competed in a 5k race.
For the women, graduate student Tess Fitzmaurice led the women’s cross country team with a fourth place finish and junior Skyler Smith finished 10th. Alondra Cruz-Delgado had a top 15 finish, with a 14th place finish. For the men, Jed Elmbarki led the team with a fourth place finish. Tom Ragone and Jared Rogalski both had top 10 finishes, placing seventh and 10th respectively.
The men’s team finished the event in second place out of six teams with 59 points and the women’s team placed third out of six teams with 81 points. Both teams will prepare for the upcoming America East Championship tournament on Nov. 2.
