Sports Summary (10/7-10/13)

This past week saw the following results for the University at Albany sports:


Seniors of the women’s soccer team joined by their loved ones on Senior Day.

Friday, Oct. 11:


Field hockey beat Bryant 3-0 at home. Mara Küskes, Charlotte Triggs and Alison Smisdom each scored one goal. Küskes and Sophia Schoonmaker each recorded one assist. Goalie Lara Behn recorded three saves. The Great Danes improved their record to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.


Volleyball beat NJIT 3-0 on the road. Shynelle Woroniuk led the team with 13 kills, followed by Elisavet Papageorgiou and Kendall Harris with 12 each. Brooke Malek led the team with 17 digs, followed by Maria Olga Siapani with 12 and Kiki Provatas with 10. The Great Danes now stand at a record of 6-11 overall and 1-3 in conference play.


Saturday, Oct. 12:


Football beat Bryant 24-17 on the road. Quarterback Myles Burkett recorded 13 completions on 24 attempts for 183 yards and two touchdowns, along with two interceptions. Burkett also led the team with 57 rushing yards, followed by Jojo Uga with 54. Uga also scored a touchdown. Levi Wentz led in receiving yards with 106, while Seven McGee followed with 26 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas Joe-Kamara notched an interception, while Chiebuka Aduaka recorded two sacks for a loss of 13 yards. The Great Danes improved to a record of 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.


Men’s soccer beat UMBC 3-2 on the road. Ivar Orri Gissurarson, Ander Castillo and Timo Jansen scored one goal each. Castillo also recorded an assist. Goalie Kodai Tsuzuki recorded four saves. The Great Danes now stand at a record of 3-9-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play.


Sunday, Oct. 13:


Women’s soccer beat NJIT 3-1 at home on Senior Day. Joanna Van Royen, Selma Elverum and Flo Bartholomai each scored one goal. Van Royen, Claire Owens and Sydney Waits each recorded an assist. Goalie Emily Dorfman recorded five saves, and substitute goalie Gabriella Terranova saved two. The Great Danes now stand at an overall record of 3-9-1 and a conference record of 2-2-1.


Field hockey beat Lehigh 2-1 on the road. Sophia Schoonmaker and Alison Smisdom each scored one goal. Blanca Orsola recorded one assist. Goalie Lara Behn recorded three saves. The Great Danes now stand at 11-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
