This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

Wednesday, Nov. 13:
Men’s basketball beat Dartmouth 87-73 in Hanover, New Hampshire. The team shot 44.6% from the field on 33-74 shooting, going 10-31 from 3-point arc and went 11-14 on free-throw attempts. Bryon Joshua and Kheni Briggs both led the team with 19 points. Justin Neely finished the game with 18 points and Amir Lindsey finished with 10 points. Kacper Klaczek led the team with four assists. The Great Danes record improved to 2-1.
Women’s basketball beat Dartmouth 58-53 in Hanover, New Hampshire. The team shot 36.5% from the field on 23-63 shooting, going 6-23 from 3-point arc and went 6-8 on free-throw attempts. Kayla Cooper led the team with 20 points. Jessica Tomasetti finished the game with 14 points. Meghan Huerter and Delanie Hill both led the team with two assists. The Great Danes record improved to 2-0.
Saturday, Nov. 16:
Football lost to #15 ranked Rhode Island 20-17 in Kingston, Rhode Island. Quarterback Van Weber made his first collegiate start and threw 31/51 for 354 yards. He also threw two touchdown passes and two interceptions. Alex Jreige led the ground game with 62 yards. Levi Wentz led the team with nine catches for 138 yards. Caden Burti recorded seven catches for 76 yards and Seven McGee recorded six catches for 70 yards. McGee and Jreige both caught a touchdown for the Great Danes. Dontae Lunan led the defense with 15 total tackles that included eight solo tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions. Dasean Dixon also recorded 1.5 tackles for loss. Ron Holmes and Jack Iuliano recorded 0.5 tackles for loss. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 3-8 and stand at 1-6 in conference play.
Women’s basketball beat Sacred Heart 61-49 during their Purple Out game. The team shot 47.1% from the field on 24-51 shooting, going 3-12 from 3-point arc and went 10-11 on free-throw attempts. Kayla Cooper led the team with 26 points. Laycee Drake finished the game with 16 points. Jessica Tomasetti and Gabriela Falcao both led the team with three assists. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 3-0.
Men’s basketball beat undefeated crosstown rival Siena 70-60 in the annual Albany Cup game. The team shot 46.2% from the field on 24-52 shooting, going 3-8 from 3-point arc and went 19-24 on free-throw attempts. Justin Neely led the team with 21 points. Kacper Klaczek finished the game with 12 points and Bryon Joshua finished the game with 11 points. Aaron Reddish led the team with two assists. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 3-1.
Note: With this win, men’s basketball has beaten Siena in the Albany Cup for two consecutive years.
Volleyball beat Bryant 3-1 in their final match of the season in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The team recorded a total of 47 kills, six aces and nine blocks. Shynelle Woroniuk led the team with 14 kills. Tori Wilson recorded 10 kills and led the team with five blocks. Brooke Malek led the team with 12 defensive digs. Four other players recorded at least six defensive digs. The Great Danes finished their season with a record of 11-14 overall, and 5-5 in conference play.
Note: With Saturday’s win, volleyball secured their spot in the playoffs and will compete in the America East Conference Championship tournament.
