Sports Summary (11/4-11/10)

This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

Monday, Nov. 4:


Men’s basketball lost to Army 67-59 in their first game of the season in West Point, New York. The team shot 36.7% from the field on 22-60 shooting, going 4-24 from 3-point arc and went 11-16 on free-throw attempts. Bryon Joshua led the team with 15 points. Sultan Adewale recorded 11 points. Zach Matulu led the team with three assists. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-1. 


Tuesday, Nov. 5:


Volleyball fell to LIU 3-0 in Brooklyn, NY. The team recorded a total of 41 kills and two blocks. Elisavet Papageorgiou led the team with 15 kills. Zosia Szczotkiewicz led the team with 12 defensive digs. Seven other players recorded at least five defensive digs in the match. The Great Danes fell to a record of 9-14. 


Men’s soccer lost to Bryant 4-0 in their final game of the season. The team recorded a total of two shots, with only one shot on goal. Caleb Vallance and Mohamed Soumah both recorded one shot. Goalkeeper Daniel Shannon recorded five saves, while Parker Kump recorded two saves. The Great Danes finished the season with a record of 4-12-1 and finished with a conference record of 1-5-1. 


Friday, Nov. 8:


#14 ranked and No. 1 conference seed field hockey lost to Vermont 1-0 in the America East Championship Semifinal game. The team finished the game with six shots, with three shots on goal. Floor de Ruiter led the team with four shots, with one shot at goal. Goalkeeper Lara Behn recorded two saves. The Great Danes finished their season with a record of 15-4 overall, and 6-0 in conference play. 


Volleyball beat NJIT 3-0 during their Senior Night celebration. The team recorded a total of 42 kills, four aces and eight blocks. Shynelle Woroniuk led the team with 11 kills. Kendall Harris recorded 10 kills. Three other players recorded at least six kills. Brooke Malek led the team with 13 defensive digs. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 10-14 overall, and improved to 4-5 in conference play. 


Women’s basketball beat Rhode Island 67-57 in their season opener and first home game of the season. The team shot 47.9% from the field on 23-43 shooting, going 3-7 from 3-point arc and went 18-20 on free-throw attempts. Kayla Cooper led the team with 18 points. Jessica Tomasetti finished the game with 16 points and Lilly Phillips finished with 10 points. Kaci Donovan led the team with two assists. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 1-0. 


Note: As a result of Friday’s win, Head Coach Colleen Mullen recorded her 100th win here at UAlbany. 


Saturday, Nov. 9:


Football lost to #17 ranked Stony Brook 24-6 in Stony Brook, New York. Quarterback Trey Lindsey threw 3/4 for 11 yards. Van Weber threw 20/32 for 201 yards. He also threw one touchdown pass and one interception. Jojo Uga and Faysal Aden both led the ground game with  57 yards and 54 yards respectively. Caden Burti, Jackson Parker and Jacari Carter all recorded four catches for 68 yards, 54 yards and for 51 yards respectively. Burti also caught the lone passing touchdown for the Great Danes. Ron Holmes led the defense with 14 total tackles that included four solo tackles and one tackle for loss. Dontae Lunan recorded 10 total tackles. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 3-7 and stand at 1-5 in conference play. 


Men’s basketball beat Oneonta 89-69 in their first home game of the season. The team shot 47.5% from the field on 38-80 shooting, going 6-23 from 3-point arc and went 7-14 on free-throw attempts. DeMarr Langford Jr. led the team with 18 points. Bryon Joshua led the team with four assists and also finished the game with 16 points. Three other players had 10 or more points in the blowout win. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 1-1.
