This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:


Members of the Women’s Track and Field Team at the America East Indoor Conference Championships. The team won their second straight title - 13th overall - over the weekend.

Tuesday, February 18


Men’s lacrosse lost to #17 UPenn 14-8 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Great Danes took 26 shots and recorded 16 turnovers. Ryan Doherty and Silas Richmond both led the team with two goals each. Richmond, Doherty, Daniel Kesselring and Koleton Marquis all led the team with one assist. Goalkeeper Landon Whitney recorded seven saves. The Great Danes record fell to 0-2.


Thursday, February 20


Men’s basketball beat Maine in 79-68 in a big conference win. The team shot 46.6 percent from the field on 27-58 shooting, going 4-14 from 3-point arc and went 21-26 on free-throw attempts. Justin Neely led the team with a career-high 29 points. Neely also recorded 11 rebounds and led the team with three steals. Amar’e Marshall finished the game with 18 points and Byron Joshua finished the game with 12 points. Marshall and Joshua both led the team with four assists each. The Great Danes improved their record to 14-13 and improved to 6-6 in conference play.


Women’s basketball beat Maine 56-40 in Orono, Maine. The team shot 44.2 percent from the field on 23-52 shooting, going 4-10 from the 3-point arc and 6-10 on free throw attempts. Jessica Tomasetti led the team with a season-high 17 points and recorded a career-high 12 rebounds. Kayla Cooper led the team with five assists. The Great Danes improved their record to 21-5, with a record of 11-2 in conference play.


Friday, February 21


Softball kicked off their regular season at the Charlotte Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina. They lost to Ball State 9-1 in five innings. The Great Danes recorded six hits. Taylor Quinn led the team with three hits.Victoria Vilarchao recorded one-and-only RBI for the Great Danes and recorded one hit. Kate Powers pitched 4.0 innings, recorded three strikeouts. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-1.  


Softball lost to Charlotte 9-0 in five innings at the Charlotte Invitational. The Great Danes recorded four hits. Charlotte Lomb led the team with two hits. Mary Kate Murray and Vanessa Meyers both recorded one hit each. Hayley Wieczerzak pitched 1.1 innings and Hailey Errichiello pitched 2.2 innings and recorded four strikeouts. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-2.  


Baseball kicked off their season and three-game series in Beaumont, Texas losing to Lamar 7-4. The Great Danes recorded eight hits. Ryan Ferremi, John Vitucci and Michael Maggio led the team with one RBI each. Ferremi, Maggio and Cooper Loyal all led the team with two hits each. Ferremi recorded two runs and Loyal recorded one run. Luke Myers recorded one run. Dylan Banner pitched 6.0 innings and recorded one strikeout. Ethan Nardacci pitched 1.1 innings and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-1.  



Saturday, February 22


Men’s lacrosse beat Drexel 16-9 for their first home win of the season. The Great Danes took 48 shots and recorded 16 turnovers. Silas Richmond led the team with five goals. Daniel Kesselring recorded three goals. Eight other Great Danes each scored one goal. Kesselring led the team with two assists. Goalkeeper Brady Smith recorded 11 saves. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 1-2.


Women’s basketball beat New Hampshire 67-49 in Durham, New Hampshire. The team shot 49.1 percent from the field on 27-55 shooting, going 5-15 from the 3-point arc and 8-13 on free throw attempts. Kayla Cooper led the team with 22 points. Jessica Tomasetti and Kaci Donovan both finished the game with 10 points. Cooper led the team with eight assists. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 22-5, with a record of 12-2 in conference play.


Men’s basketball lost New Hampshire 71-60 during their Senior Night celebration game. The team shot 32.1% from the field on 17-53 shooting, going 8-23 from 3-point arc and went 18-26 on free-throw attempts. Byron Joshua led the team with 20 points. Kacper Klaczek and Kheni Briggs both finished the game with 10 points. Amar’e Marshall, DeMarr Langford Jr. and Justin Neely all led the team with two assists. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 14-14, with a record of 6-7 in conference play.


Softball lost to Lehigh 11-3 in five innings during their second day at the Charlotte Invitational. The Great Danes recorded six hits. Victoria Vilarchao and Deanna Grahek both led the team with two hits each.Vilarchao and Sara Anderson both recorded one RBI each. Kate Powers pitched 2.1 innings and recorded one strikeout. Hailey Errichiello pitched 2.0 innings, recorded one strikeout and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-3.   


Softball lost to Charlotte 9-0 during their second day at the Charlotte Invitational. The Great Danes recorded two hits. Caitlyn Frederick and Natasha Mendez both recorded one hit each. Hayley Wieczerzak pitched 2.0 innings and recorded two strikeouts. Dominique Prevette pitched 2.0 innings and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-4.  


Baseball lost to Lamar 21-0 in seven innings in Beaumont, Texas. The Great Danes recorded five hits. Jared Toby and Thomas McElwee led the team with two hits each. Logan Morris recorded one hit. Luke Boule pitched 1.1 innings, and Alex Enea pitched 1.0 inning. Cam Fuer pitched 1.2 innings and recorded one strikeout. Matthew Mariano pitched 2.0 innings, recorded one strikeout and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-2. 


Sunday, February 23


Women’s lacrosse lost to #14 Stony Brook 16-10 during their inaugural Tucker Out Lymphoma game. The Great Danes took 21 shots, and recorded 15 turnovers. Ava Poupard led the team with three goals. Haley Phalines, Gracie McCauley and Paisley Cook each scored two goals. Mikaela Mooney led the team with two assists. Goalkeeper Grace Cincebox recorded one save and Quinn McCarthy recorded six saves. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 0-4.


Softball lost to Ball State 12-1 in their final day at the Charlotte Invitational. The Great Danes recorded three hits. Sara Anderson led the team with one RBI and recorded one hit. Mary Kate Murray and Victoria Vilarchao both recorded one hit each. Hailey Errichiello pitched 4.1 innings, recorded two strikeouts and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 0-5.   


Baseball lost to Lamar 5-3 in Beaumont, Texas. The Great Danes recorded four hits. Anthony Scarabino led the team with four RBI’s. Will Binder and Ryan Ferremi led the team with two hits and they both recorded three runs. Thomas Quinn and Christian Mello both pitched 1.0 inning each. Mark Gajowski pitched 2.0 innings and recorded one strikeout. Ryan Pittz pitched 4.0 innings, recorded three strikeouts and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 0-3.  


The women’s track and field team competed at the America East Indoor Championships in Boston, Massachusetts, this weekend. The Great Danes won back-to-back titles and their 13th overall America East Indoor Conference Championship with a total of 164 points. Overall the Great Danes had three individual champions and 16 total medal winners. Rebeca Valerie Barrientos Alpha was named Most Outstanding Field Performer. 

  

The men’s track and field team competed at the America East Indoor Championships in Boston, Massachusetts this weekend. The Great Danes won back-to-back titles and their 18th overall America East Indoor Championship with a total of 170 points.  Overall the Great Danes had six individual champions and 15 total medal winners. Tooni Ogunyeye was named Most Outstanding Rookie. The men’s coaching staff won Coaching Staff of the Year.
