This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:


Sophomore Ryan Doherty (#1). Doherty tied the single game scoring record on Saturday against Hobart with nine goals.

Tuesday, March 4:


Men’s basketball lost to Vermont 79-71 in Burlington, Vermont in their final game of the regular season. The team shot 41.0% from the field on 25-61 shooting, going 9-20 from 3-point arc and went 12-15 on free-throw attempts. Byron Joshua led the team with 25 points. Amar’e Marshall finished the game with 19 points. Kacper Klaczek finished the game with 10 points. Marshall and Amir Lindsey both led the team with three assists each. The Great Danes finished the season with a record of 16-15, with a record of 8-8 in conference play.


NOTE: With this win, the Men’s Basketball team secured the No. 4 seed in the America East Conference Tournament. They host their first playoff game since 2018. 


Wednesday, March 5:


Men’s lacrosse lost to #10 Georgetown 12-7. The Great Danes took 37 shots and recorded 18 turnovers. Brendan O’Keefe led the team with two goals. Five other Great Danes each scored one goal. Ryan Doherty and Silas Richmond both led the team with two assists each. Goalkeeper Brady Smith recorded 11 saves. The Great Danes fell to a record of 1-4.


Thursday, March 6:


Women’s basketball beat New Hampshire 66-44 in the America East Quarterfinals. The team shot 53.7 percent from the field on 29-54 shooting, going 8-17 from the 3-point arc and 0-3 on free throw attempts. Lilly Phillips led the team with 15 points. Meghan Huerter finished the game with 14 points. Kayla Cooper finished the game with 12 points and Kaci Donovan finished the game with 11 points. Cooper led the team with five assists. The Great Danes move onto the America East Conference Semifinals against Maine. 



Friday, March 7:


Baseball beat Hofstra 4-2 in Hempstead, New York. The Great Danes recorded five hits. Ryan Ferremi led the team with two RBIs. Cooper Loyal and Logan Morris both recorded one RBI each. Five Great Danes recorded one hit each. Four Great Danes recorded one run each. Dylan Banner pitched 8.0 innings, recorded six strikeouts and earned the win. The Great Danes improved their record to 4-4.  



Saturday, March 8:


Men’s basketball beat Binghamton 69-66 in the America East Quarterfinals. The team shot 37.7% from the field on 26-69 shooting, going 10-32 from 3-point arc and went 7-9 on free-throw attempts. Amar’e Marshall led the team with 20 points. Byron Joshua finished the game with 17 points. Kacper Klaczek and DeMarr Langford Jr. led the team with two assists each. The Great Danes move onto the America East Conference Semifinals against Bryant. 


Men’s lacrosse beat Hobart 17-12. The Great Danes took 49 shots and recorded nine turnovers. Ryan Doherty led the team with nine goals, which tied the single game goals record. Kotelton Marquis scored three goals. Jackson Palumb scored two goals. Three other Great Danes each scored one goal. Silas Richmond led the team with four assists. Goalkeeper Brady Smith recorded 10 saves. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 2-4.


Women’s lacrosse lost to #25 UConn 15-4 during their Danes All Day game. The Great Danes took 20 shots, and recorded 17 turnovers. Ava Poupard led the team with two goals. Mikaela Mooney and Dylana Williams scored one goal each. Mooney led the team with two assists. Goalkeeper Quinn McCarthy recorded five saves. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 1-5.


Softball beat Manhattan 3-2 in nine innings at the George Washington Invitational in Washington, D.C. The Great Danes recorded eight hits. Taylor Quinn, Victoria Vilarchao and Charlotte Lomb all led the team with one RBI each. Quinn and Caitlyn Frederick both led the team with three hits each. Kate Powers pitched 9.0 innings, recorded six strikeouts and earned the win. The Great Danes improved their record to 2-9.   


Softball lost to George Washington 3-2 at the George Washington Invitational. The Great Danes recorded six hits. Vanessa Meyers led the team with two RBIs. Six Great Danes led the team with one hit each. Mary Kate Murray and Christie Collins both scored one run each. Hayley Wieczerzak pitched 2.0 innings and recorded three strikeouts. Hailey Errichiello pitched 4.0 innings, recorded four strikeouts and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes fell to a record of 2-10.  


Baseball beat Hostra 10-8 in Hempstead, New York. The Great Danes recorded 12 hits. Luke Myers led the team with two RBIs. Six other Great Danes recorded one RBI. Michael Maggio, Jared Toby, Thomas McElwee and Cooper Loyal all led the team with two hits each. Toby led the team with two runs. Eight Great Danes recorded one run each. Alex Enea pitched 2.0 innings and recorded three strikeouts. Mark Gajanowski pitched 3.0 innings and recorded one strikeout. Tyler Kneller pitched 4.0 innings, recorded two strikeouts and earned the win. The Great Danes improved their record to 5-4. 


Sunday, March 9:


Softball beat Manhattan 5-2 during their final day at the George Washington Invitational. The Great Danes recorded eight hits. Deanna Grahekled the team with two RBIs. Taylor Quinn led the team with two hits. Six Great Danes all recorded one hit each. Five Great Danes all recorded one run each. Hayley Wieczerzak pitched 7.0 innings, recorded 11 strikeouts and earned the win. The Great Danes improved their record to 3-10. 

  

Softball lost to George Washington 5-0 during their final day at the George Washington Invitational. The Great Danes recorded seven hits. Four Great Danes all recorded one hit each. Kate Powers pitched 4.0 innings and Hailey Errichiello pitched 2.0 innings, recorded one strikeout and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 3-11.   


Baseball lost to Hofstra 20-0 in Hempstead, New York. The Great Danes recorded four hits. Victor Mazzara, Ryan Ferremi, Jared Toby and Justin Hurd all led the team with one hit each. Ryan Pittz pitched 3.1 innings and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 5-5.  


The men’s and women’s track and field team competed in their last indoor meet of the season at the ECAC Championships meet in Boston, Massachusetts this weekend. The men’s team finished in 10th place - out of 27 teams - with 27 points and the women’s team finished in 20th place  - out of 31 teams - with 12 points. 


For the women, Rebeca Valerie Barrientos Alpha finished first in the triple jump with a mark of 12.40m. Katie Iocca finished seventh in the 5000m race with a time of 17:30.42, which set a new personal record. 


For the men, three Great Danes set personal records: Hassan Abidi in the 400m with a time of 47.94, Jerry Lewis in the 1000m race with a time of 2:31.05 and Jed Elmbarki in the mile race with a time of 4:10.92. Chris Bertola set a new personal record in the 3000m race with a time of 8:19.57. Issac Graber placed third in the 1000m final with a time of 2:24.67.
