This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:
Defensive back Kevon Angry (#14) at #4 Idaho on Saturday. Angry recorded two tackles in the Great Danes' loss.

Monday, Sept. 9:
Men’s soccer beat Marist 2-0 in Poughkeepsie, New York, snapping a prolonged losing streak. Timo Jansen and Ander Castillo both scored one goal for the Great Danes and Christos Efstathiou recorded the lone assist of the game. Goalkeeper Daniel Shannon recorded four saves. The Great Danes improved their record to 2-4.
Thursday, Sept. 12:
Women’s soccer lost 1-0 to Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. The team took four shots and only two shots on goal. Goalkeeper Emily Dorfman recorded 12 saves. The Great Danes fell to a record of 1-5.
Friday, Sept. 13:
Men’s cross country and women’s cross country competed at the Iona Meet of Champions. For the men, they competed in a 8k race whereas the women competed in a 5k race.
For the women, graduate student Tess Fitzmaurice and junior Skyler Smith both finished with Top 20 placements for the second consecutive race. For the men, Jed Elmbarki led the team with a 15th-place finish.
The men’s team finished fourth with 110 points and the women’s team also finished fourth with 100 points.
Volleyball attended the Dog Pound Challenge in Storrs, Connecticut, this weekend. The Great Danes fell to Dartmouth in a 3-2 thriller. The team recorded a total of 47 kills, five aces and eight blocks. Shynelle Woroniuk led the team with 15 kills. Brooke Malek led the team with a match-high 31 defensive digs. Maria Olga Siapani also recorded 18 defensive digs. The Great Danes fell to a record of 3-4.
#19 ranked field hockey beat #7 Harvard 3-2 in overtime in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The team finished the game with 11 shots on goal. Alison Smisdom led the team with six shots at goal and recorded the three goals for the Great Danes. Delphine Le June led the team with two assists. Balance Orsola and Floor De Ruiter each recorded an assist. Goalkeeper Laura Behn recorded three saves. The Great Danes now have a record of 4-1.
Saturday, Sept. 14:
Volleyball fell to Delaware State 3-1 during the final day of the Dog Pound Challenge. The team recorded a total of 42 kills, eight aces and five blocks. Shynelle Woroniuk led the team with 14 kills and Brooke Malek led the team with 17 defensive digs. The Great Danes fell to a record of 3-5.
Volleyball fell to undefeated UConn in a 3-2 thriller in their final match of the Dog Pound Challenge. The team recorded a total of 58 kills, 10 aces and nine blocks. Shynelle Woroniuk led the team with 21 kills. Elisavet Papageorgiou recorded 14 kills and Tori Wilson recorded 10 kills. Brooke Malek led the team with 27 defensive digs. Two other team members also recorded over 10 defensive digs. Volleyball’s record now stands at 3-6.
#17 ranked football fell to #4 ranked Idaho 41-13 in Moscow, Idaho, in a FCS quarterfinal rematch from last season. Quarterback Myles Burkett threw 23/38 for 290 yards; he also threw one touchdown pass. Levi Wentz led the team with five catches for 114 yards, and two other receivers produced over 50 receiving yards. Dontae Lunan led the defense with 11 tackles. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 1-2.
Men’s soccer tied Cornell 2-2. The team recorded a total of 12 shots, with five shots on goal and received four corner kicks. Ander Castillo scored two goals for the Great Danes, while Timo Jansen and Ethan Cook each recorded an assist. Goalkeeper Parker Kump recorded one save. The Great Danes record now stands at 2-4-1.
Sunday, Sept. 15:
Women’s soccer fell to Colgate 4-1. The team took seven shots, with only three shots at goal. Sina Anger scored the lone goal for the Great Danes. Carsyn Boyer and Selma Elverum both recorded one assist. Goalkeeper Emily Dorfman recorded a career-high 14 saves. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 1-6.
#19 ranked field hockey beat Drexel 3-1. The team finished the game with seven shots on goal. Allison Smisdom led the team with two shots at goal and scored two goals. Lotje Ligthart also had one shot at goal and scored one goal. Goalkeeper Lara Behn recorded one save. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 5-1.
