In summer 2024 we heard a resurgence of pop music. As we wrap up this iconic season, here are a few of the songs that were the highlight of the summer. This soundtrack includes artists such as Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and so many more.

“Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter: Emerging as a pop princess with her new album “Short and Sweet,” Sabrina Carpenter’s song “Espresso” is the perfect summer song. It’s upbeat, catchy, and so fun to dance to. This song went viral on Tik Tok and topped charts this summer.

“Close To You” by Gracie Abrams: Although this song was written years ago, Gracie Abrams kept it from fans until the release of her sophomore album “The Secret of Us.” This song is perfect for the summer, as it describes the exact feeling of having a summer crush. Although this song is a turn from her typical melancholic style of music, this upbeat change was welcomed and embraced by fans.

“Apple” by Charli XCX: Having a brat summer? If you are then this was definitely your anthem for the summer. This viral song and dance on TikTok is perfect for everyone having a brat summer.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozy: Another viral TikTok song. This song is just as catchy as the others and adds some upbeat fun to any playlist. This song also has some throwback features, as it is an interpolation of the 2004 J-Kwon song “Tipsy”.

“Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish: Following the success of her 2023 hit song ‘What Was I Made For?’ from the Barbie movie last summer, Billie Eilish did it again this year with her latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. This song from the album “Birds of a Feather” is a summer highlight. Honorable mentions from this album include “The Greatest” and “Lunch”.

“HOT TO GO!” by Chappell Roan: After videos of Chappell Roan's electrifying crowd at GovBall went viral, this song has become one of the summer's highlights. In fact, Roan’s entire album “The Rise and Fall of the Midwest Princess” is danceable and fun to sing along with.

“Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift: Although originally released in 2019, this song from Taylor Swift’s album “Lover” made a resurgence, being released last summer as a single. As one of the opening songs for the legendary Eras Tour, this song is timeless in the fact that it will consistently be a song of the summer.

“Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar: As the most recent installment of the internet beef between rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake, this song is the most prominent diss track Lamar released this May. This song in particular accuses Drake of being a pedophile, and a snitch. This song is not only entertaining to listen to, but provides further context into the longstanding feud between Drake and Lamar.

Overall, this summer provided a variety of music perfect for any summer playlist. Pop music is definitely making a comeback and we can expect more amazing music throughout the year.
