The University at Albany’s cherished main fountain is back on, and intended to stay on, after a year of renovation due to a pipe leak reported during the Spring 2021 semester.

UAlbany Senior Communications Specialist Mike Nolan confirmed that, after a year of repair, the fountain is expected to remain up-and-running for graduation and for the foreseeable future.

“Our facilities team worked tirelessly this semester to get it up and running in time for spring,” Nolan said. “We have every intention of having the fountain turned on for graduation weekend and through next fall.”

An official UAlbany Instagram post unveiled the fountain’s return earlier this month with a caption mentioning that repairs are not completed and that the water may still be drained occasionally for maintenance.

Nolan’s statement matched the caption’s sentiment, asking for patience as the fountain undergoes continual improvements.

“The repairs are not completely finished yet,” Nolan said. “We are asking the campus community to bear with us as there might still be some periods when the fountain is off again.”

UAlbany Communications declined to provide comment on whether the fountain’s quick turnaround was motivated by Spring Accepted Student Open Houses or prospective student campus tours – especially as there was no expected completion date previously.

According to the UAlbany “Main Fountain: Enhanced Experience” webpage, phases of various improvements beyond the leak repairs have been slowly implemented since September 2021 and are expected to be completed in May 2023. As this is an ongoing project, new updates will be shared as they are released.
