Coming off an NCAA Tournament bid last March, the University at Albany women’s basketball team have released their schedule for the 2022-2023 season.
The Great Danes will begin their season on Nov. 11th, when they host Merrimack. Following the home opener, UAlbany will be on the road to travel to Siena and Navy.
UAlbany will come right back home on Nov. 19th to host Colgate before leaving on the 25th for Nevada, where the Great Danes will be participating in the UNLV Tournament. November concludes when the Great Danes travel to Buffalo to take on Canisius.
The women’s season really starts to take off in December. It begins when they host Cornell on the 3rd. They are then on the road for two weeks straight. The road trip begins on Dec. 6th, when the Great Danes travel to Dartmouth to take on the Big Green. Dartmouth finished a 1-10 record at home last year, as home court was proven not to be a huge advantage.
UAlbany finishes their non-conference schedule when they travel to take on power-five schools, Boston College (Dec. 10th), Ohio State (Dec. 16th) and Syracuse (Dec. 20th). These games are going to be real tests for this UAlbany program as Ohio State just had a 25-7 record last year and Boston College is coming off a season where they went 21-12. These teams are really good and are going to push the Great Danes to be better.
"Having to play the majority of our non-conference games on the road and home games away from SEFCU Arena will provide additional obstacles this year. I am confident our veteran team will rise to the challenge,” said head coach Colleen Mullen. “Playing on the road will provide our team with unique opportunities for growth and allow us more time to build relationships off the court. This will only strengthen our culture and help better prepare us to be playing our best basketball in March."
The Great Danes begin conference play on Dec. 29th when they host the Vermont Catamounts. Following the Vermont game, the Great Danes will only play seven more conference games at home.
Conference play continues throughout January and concludes on the road against NJIT (Feb. 25th). The America East playoffs begin on Mar. 1st, with semifinals coming on the 5th and the championship on Mar. 11th.
With hopes of returning back to the NCAA Women’s Tournament, the Great Danes will have to take care of conference play as a America East championship gives them an automatic bid to the big dance.
