The University at Albany has agreed to two new dual admissions agreements with SUNY community colleges, allowing students the chance at higher education. Fulton Montgomery Community College (FMCC) and the Hudson Valley Community College (HVAC) have recently signed agreements with UAlbany allowing their students the chance to continue their education after graduation.

This program is applicable to those who have completed an Associate of Arts, Science, or a select Associate in Applied Science Degree as well as those who achieve a minimum GPA of 2.5 in their original school. This program is open to students as they first apply to HVAC or FMCC although the option is still open to students if they fulfill the requirements and reach out to their academic advisor.

This allows students from FMCC and HVAC to achieve both an Associates Degree and a bachelor’s degree within five years. Transfers from their respective colleges are immediately considered juniors and given this status as such in terms of housing, academic advisement, and registration.

These programs will allow higher education to be more affordable and time efficient, allowing students to earn two degrees within five years. It allows a bachelor’s degree to become more attainable for students.

Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr Michael Christakis said of the new programs, “This partnership opens doors to a four-year degree for our neighbors…by offering a seamless transition from their associate degrees to full matriculation into UAlbany as juniors. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from higher education and K-12 education, as well as the area business community, which I think shows how important this kind of agreement is to the whole community.”

This is not the first dual admissions program UAlbany has participated in recently. A dual admissions agreement was also signed with the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) in January. This provides similar opportunities for students attending BMCC.

Students transferring from HVAC, FMCC, or BMCC with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be guaranteed a UAlbany Transfer Merit Scholarship if they fulfill the degree requirements of their respective school.
