University Police (UPD) notified University at Albany students via email of an incident involving multiple shots and reported stabbing at 4 p.m. today on the corner of Western Avenue and Ontario Street.

Albany Police (APD) does not have any suspects in custody at this time. The suspect was described as carrying a silver slide handgun and fled north on Ontario Street after the incident.

The incident is reported to involve “numerous juveniles” and two individuals were transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment. The Albany Student Press is awaiting comment from UPD. No information regarding the extent of injuries has been released.

According to the statement, UPD currently does not have reason to believe UAlbany students were involved.

Due to the proximity to UAlbany downtown campus’ Alumni Quad, UPD will have an increased presence and is available to escort students by request. Students are recommended by UPD to avoid large gatherings in midtown Albany during this time.

APD and UPD encourage anyone to call (518) 462-8039 with tips. The case is currently under investigation, and updates will be shared as released.
