The University at Albany Student Association, in collaboration with the basement concert venue Greenhouse, will be hosting DippiFest at Dippikill Wilderness Retreat on Oct. 19.
DippiFest is the Student Association’s annual day-long music festival where people can enjoy free food, apple cider, fall games and activities, merchandise giveaways and more. Music groups G.O.L.E.M, Chico Romano, Layzi, Ricky Bandana, Hidden Drive and Crystal Balls will be performing live from 2:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
This year DippiFest is Halloween themed, so festival-goers are encouraged to dress up and enjoy horror movies that will be playing throughout the day.
The music festival’s venue, Dippikill Wilderness Retreat, is a 1,000-acre wilderness retreat located 74 miles north of UAlbany’s Uptown Campus in the Adirondacks. Dippikill is owned and operated by the UAlbany Student Association.
The festival has not been without incident; in 2022, two UAlbany students missed the 10PM bus back to campus and got stranded at Dippikill. The students were assisted by Department of Environment Conservation forest rangers, and were picked up in the morning by parents.
Despite past issues, many students will still be attending DippiFest this year. Freshman Annie Kim is excited to “hopefully socialize” with others even if they “don’t really know” what the music festival will be like.
Freshman Joy Brathwaite is looking forward to the “free food and the giveaways” at DippiFest, but wished there was an activity available to “pick pumpkins and decorate them or something.”
Tickets for DippiFest are being sold to students for $10 and members of the public for $17. Tickets are being sold online through Eventbrite. The link to buy tickets can also be found on the Link Tree in the Student Association’s Instagram bio or in the Greenhouse’s Instagram bio.
Those wishing to attend Dippifest, but lacking a car can select tickets marked with “+ Transportation” which will secure a seat on Student Association provided buses. These buses will be leaving from Collins Circle at 12:00 p.m. and will be returning at 11:00 p.m. For those with a car however, Dippikill Wilderness Retreat can be found at 656 Dippikill Road, Warrensburg, New York.
