After finishing second in the America East with a conference record of 13-3 and an overall record of 25-6, the Great Danes earned their bid to the WNIT due to being the best-finishing team in their conference who did not receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The University of Maine, who finished first in the America East with a record of 14-2 and an overall record of 24-9, received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after beating Vermont 64-48 in the America East Championship on Friday.
The Great Danes have only received two WNIT invitations throughout their program’s history: one in 2018 and another in 2023. Both bids ended in a first round exit for UAlbany, losing to Penn and UMass Amherst, respectively.
The remainder of the selections were announced on Sunday, and the 48-team bracket was announced on Monday. The Great Danes begin tournament play on Thursday, where they will face off against Colgate on the road. The winner will play Providence in the second round.
Colgate, who finished third in the Patriot League with a record of 10-8 and an overall record of 18-13, lost in the second round of their conference tournament against Boston University by a final score of 52-40.
